Biographical Info
Irmak Çankaya is a philosopher and anthropologist with a focus on existential and clinical phenomenology, as well as medical and psychological anthropology. She holds a BA in Philosophy from Boğaziçi University, Turkey, an MA in Philosophy and an Advanced MSc in Anthropology from KU Leuven, Belgium. While she also has her training and experience in quantitative research methods, her expertise lies in qualitative methods, particularly phenomenology, ethnographic fieldwork (field expertise: Turkey) and case studies. Her approach is rooted in phenomenological anthropology, which means she prioritizes first-person experience while considering the sociocultural and political contexts in which they unfold. She also adopts a gender-sensitive perspective in her work, ensuring that feminist viewpoints are explored when relevant and always factoring gender issues into her analysis where necessary.
