Biographical Info

Mona Behnke is a PhD candidate in Social and Cultural Anthropology at the University of Münster. In her PhD project, she focuses on the emotional labor of care workers in a Women’s Crisis Center in Central Java, Indonesia. She explores how aides display and suppress emotions to support affected women while navigating through various, often male-dominated spheres. Her research touches on issues of gender, socio-cultural emotions, self-concepts, and mental health strategies in response to the frequent exposure to patriarchal violence.
