WiPS: Falling through the cracks? Cultural barriers and the underutilization of mental health services among Chinese international students in the UK, Maria Nolan, 28 November

We warmly invite you to this month’s ENPA Works-in-Progress Seminar (WiPS) on Thursday, the 28th of November at 5PM CET via Zoom.

We are delighted to introduce this month’s presenter, Maria Nolan from SOAS University of London, who will share her work-in-progress titled:

Falling through the cracks? Cultural barriers and the underutilization of mental health services among Chinese international students in the UK

In recent years, concern for university students’ mental wellbeing has grown, with research indicating that approximately one-third experience mental health problems (WHO 2018). In the UK, while universities report increasing demand for mental health services, Chinese international students – one of the largest student cohorts – are reportedly less likely to seek these services despite facing similar or higher rates of mental health problems compared to domestic students (Magnusdottir and Thornicroft 2022). This presentation examines cultural factors influencing service uptake among Chinese international students in the UK and considers the implications for mental health provision in the context of increasingly diverse student populations.

We hope to see many of you on Thursday, November 28th, and look forward to the stimulating and friendly discussion.
